| Music therapy is the intentional and compassionate use of
music to facilitate change and improve quality of life. Music therapy implements a
holistic approach to healing in that it speaks to the well part of each person. The
music is used therapeutically to address goals that are non-musical in nature, affecting
physiological, physical, psychological, cognitive and/or social changes. Because
music is a powerful and non-threatening medium, unique outcomes are possible.
What Do Music Therapists Do? Music Therapists design individual music experiences to create a specialized program based on assessment, treatment planning and ongoing evaluation. These experiences may include instrumental or vocal improvisation, Guided Imagery and Music (G.I.M.), songwriting, music-focused relaxation, drumming, lyric analysis, art, singing or toning. Clients need not have a musical background to benefit from music therapy. Music therapists implement programs with groups or individuals who display a vast continuum of needs, from reduction of anxiety to deeper self-understanding.
Who Can Benefit From Music Therapy? People of all ages, including individuals with:

| The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (G.I.M.) is a form of
therapy which involves listening to selected classical music in a relaxed state in order
to elicit mental imagery arising from the deeper conscious self. As these images
from the creative imagination come to conscious awareness they are shared with a
guide. The images may include visual pictures, emotions, memories or physical
sensations reflective of one's unique life journey. The guide then assists the
person to begin to integrate the imaging experiences into his/her life, which can
stimulate a deep and rich unfolding of self. The understanding that comes from new
insights can generate growth, healing and transformation. G.I.M. is available as
primary, adjunctive or group therapy.
